    The Early Career Network (previously known as the Younger Member Network) is an inclusive network for anyone who considers themselves in the early stages of their career, and who feels they would benefit from networking within their peer group whilst forming connections with others who are further ahead in their career, whilst in a friendly and accessible environment. This may include members in industry, teachers, students, academics, as well as members who are returning to work or study following a career break, or those changing career path.

    Please feel free to use this group to start discussions on topics that are relevant to our members in the early stages of their career, or to promote events that are of relevance to this career stage.

    Further information on the Early Career Network

    The network is member-led, and activities and events are organised by Early Career Network Representatives. The role of these representatives is to organise activities that further the personal and professional development of those in the early stages of their career that provide opportunities such as;

    • Peer to peer support;
    • Networking opportunities;
    • Communication opportunities between peers, employers and senior members;
    • Opportunities for presenting work, especially through talks;
    • Opportunities for careers advice and support;
    • The opportunity to attend conferences;
    • Help and advice when applying for research grants.

    To find out more about events going on in your local area, please have a look at our events website or contact the representative in your region.

    Interested in becoming a representative?

    If you would like to find out more information about becoming a representative, please contact Marie in the Member Networks team (contact details are below). There is no limit to the number of Early Career Network representatives in a local area, and we strongly encourage our representatives to keep in touch/participate in our other networks (Chemistry Societies in Universities, Local Section committees, Interest Group committees, and our Divisions).

    Member benefits

    For a full list of our member benefits, please see here on the website. There are travel grants available, and there are also grants specifically for those who are post-docs and postgraduate students. There are also a whole host of awards and prizes that you can apply for if you are in the early stages of your career, and a full list of those can be found here.
