I have been on the RSC grad scheme 5 months now and I am not too sure where the time has gone! It has been a great experience so far with many amazing opportunities! I am currently in the Education team, and have been for just over a month; however my first rotation was in the Science team.
In the Science team I was presented with many different responsibilities and managed tasks relating to a number of projects from day one. I have learnt an incredible amount about
Science Policy, the RSC as a whole as well as working across many different departments. Activities included organising events such as the
Lord Lewis Prize Lecture to carrying out background research to support the RSC’s
Chemistry Landscape project. I completed the content for a new
Science Policy Writing for Political Engagement e-resource for our members as well as writing a RSC position statement on Chemical Science opportunities in the Industrial Biotechnology sector. This RSC position statement will form a basis of Science activities in 2012, including the development of a Government roadmap for Synthetic Biology.
Now in the Education team, I have taken on many projects including
'Chemistry in the Olympics' which is a new website launching in March linked to
LearnChemistry. I have particularly enjoyed working on this project! I have been working on developing content for the webpage which has involved liaising with a variety of people from UK Anti-doping to the Brownlee Brother’s (triathalon medal hopeful for 2012!) who will introduce our new webpage and Global Experiment.
