Bhavan’s Public School participates in the Global Experiment

Students of Bhavan’s Public School (BhPS), Wakrah, recently participated in the Royal Society of Chemistry’s (RSC) Global Mapping of Water Quality, the world’s biggest ever chemistry experiment, in the presence of international representative of the RSC.

Bhavan’s Public School participates in the Global Experiment
This global experiment is the centrepiece of the International Year of Chemistry 2011, established in the UN, to mark the 100th anniversary of Marie Curie winning the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1911.

The global experiment is the largest collection of pH value of water ever undertaken at one time. It is considered as a powerful method of engaging young people with a measurable outcome which would help the environment and contribute to the online global map of water quality and treatment. Testing of the pH of sea water was conducted by BhPS pupils at Al Wakrah beach and of the drinking water in the school premises.

The Science Club of the school was also inaugurated to mark the occasion. Dr Richard Ellis, deputy general manager of Gulf Laboratories Co, was the chief guest and Arunan K M, chief chemist, was the guest of honour. Arunan reminded everyone that the quality of life we enjoy today is the efforts put forth by the earlier scientists. One minute’s silence was observed to pay homage to them. The chief guest gave away prizes to winners of the various competitions, conducted earlier by BhPS in connection with World Environment Day.
