Take part in our Global Experiment!

To celebrate the International Year of Crystallography, our Global Experiment 2014 is all about crystallisation. What are the best conditions for growing crystals? Does temperature affect a crystal’s growth? Discover the art of crystallisation at home or in the classroom and compare your results with students around the world.

Wondering how to manage your career?

Speak to one of our career specialists; we aim to be accessible at a time which is beneficial for you. In addition to emailing and calling in we can set up evening consultations over the phone on Tuesdays/Thursdays from 8pm. If you want to talk to us in person we have the following days available:
London: 13th June
Cambridge: 17th June

You will be invited to attend local careers hubs near you later in the year.

Host an Education Coordinator in Scotland

The Royal Society of Chemistry’s network of Education Coordinators work to support and promote RSC education activities, enhance regional education provision and bring together groups of people working to promote the chemical sciences.

This network is expanding and we are currently inviting tenders for an additional host in Scotland. Universities, FE colleges, science centres and other organisations involved in STEM education are welcome to apply although there are geographical restrictions. Each contract is for up to £50,000 pa for 3 years to cover salary, on-costs and overheads.

The deadline for submissions is Monday 14th July 2014. Visit Expanding our Network for more information.
If your institution, or a consortium of institutions, is interested in hosting an Education Coordinator, please contact  an initial expression of interest to beveridgew@rsc.org.

New Officers' Briefing Day, 30th July 2014

We would like to invite all new Officers of RSC committees to attend this year’s New Officer’s Briefing Day.

This is the annual induction day for all new Local Section, Interest Group and Analytical Division Region Officers (Chairs, Secretaries and Treasurers) which will again be a physical event this year. Please could you pass this on to any of your committee that you think would be interested in attending.

The purpose of this event is to provide new or recently appointed officers with information about their role, what is expected of them and the support and resources available to them from RSC staff and other sources. Unfortunately we are only able to invite those members based in the UK and Ireland to attend this event, any members based in other countries can contact us for additional support at any time.

The New Officers Briefing Day will take place on Wednesday 30th July at the Royal Society of Chemistry, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London. Please register no later than Friday 18th July, you can register your interest by contacting networks@rsc.org indicating any dietary requirements.

A Future in Chemistry

Guide their future in chemistry with our new careers site.

When it comes to job prospects, we know that students aged between 11 and 19 have a lot of decisions to make. Subject choices. Work experience. The best university for their plans. There’s a good deal to think about – especially when a career in chemistry is the ultimate goal.

A look through our new careers site will give you what you need to help them make informed choices and feel confident about their future.

Inclusion and diversity tip of the month

Consider the diversity of the guest speakers you invite to your events. This can benefit both the speaker and the audience. Choosing a particular speaker may help to break down stereotypes that the audience might have. Consider who will be able to connect best with your audience, and who might surprise your audience.

Find more tips for creating inclusive events on our Diversity web page.
