Communications from across the RSC

Local Section Day 2017
We would like each Local Section to nominate a representative of their committee to attend our celebration of Local Section activities. The invitation is for discussion at your next committee meeting and is not a direct invitation to any specific individual or Officer. The Member Networks Committee are keen to encourage you to discuss this invitation and nominate a representative as a whole committee.

Interest Group Forum 2017
We would like each Interest Group to nominate a representative of their committee to attend the 2017 Interest Group Forum. The forum is the new governance meeting for Interest Groups and it is important that as many groups are represented as possible. The Member Networks Committee are keen to encourage you to discuss this invitation and nominate a representative as a whole committee.

Chemists’ Community Fund biennial Volunteer Network Conference
On Monday 5th June, the Chemists’ Community Fund will hold its biennial Volunteer Network Conference at Burlington House, bringing together representatives of the Fund. This year’s event will include presentations from guest speakers covering topics around bereavement and dementia care, as well as our overview of recent achievements and activities across the Fund. Local Section Benevolent Fund representatives will have received an invitation to the event, and are reminded to register online by no later than Monday 8th May. If you have not received an invitation to the conference, but are interested in attending, please contact benfund@rsc.org to express interest (please note limited spaces are available).

Legal Team – Contracts and Liabilities
Just a quick reminder that any paperwork which is signed by any of our committees or members on our behalf which involves a contract or signing up to any additional liabilities must be sent to our Legal Team for checking prior to signing. Please be aware that we only have a small Legal Team and they have a big workload so please do send these documents with as much notice as possible.

Webinar on managing unemployment.
Unemployment can hit anyone, at any time – and managing it shouldn’t be an uphill struggle.
The information in this webinar is designed to help maximise the chances of finding the right route back to work for chemists faced with unemployment.
Join us on 17 May at 12.30 (UK time):
  • We’ll share realistic ways of dealing with the challenges you might encounter along the way.
  • You’ll hear from a Royal Society of Chemistry member who’s navigated long-term unemployment and is ready to share useful advice and tips that led to him finding work again.
  • And we’ll tell you more about the support we offer to all of our members and their families.

This newsletter including additional information from other departments is also available online (http://my.rsc.org/blogs/81).
Please feel free to encourage other members of your committee to read the newsletter online.

We welcome any feedback you have on what you would like included in this newsletter; please email any suggestions to networks@rsc.org.

Kind regards,
The Networks Team
Fiona, Nic & Stephanie
