Dear Member,

Welcome to the October edition of the Networks Newsletter. These monthly newsletters aim to keep all member networks updated with news describing how to get involved, as well as information of relevant events, services and new initiatives from the RSC Networks Team.

This months newsletter contains information about:

Our new events database
The outreach fund
Careers team update
Chemical Analysis Metadata Platform (ChAMP) project
Our prizes and awards: nominate now
Read top journals and ebooks for free

Our new events database: All our events at your fingertips

You only need to take one look at our Diary in RSC News every month to see just how many conferences, symposia, networking meetings, outreach activities and many more events we and our members organise every month. To make it easier for you to find out what is happening where and when, we have been making changes to our online events database.

We have implemented a new browse and search function that will make it easier for you to find what you are looking for. We have also changed the technology behind the database, so that an individual web page is automatically created for each event that is uploaded to the database.

To access the database and take a look at how you can search events by region and location or event type and date, visit www.rsc.org/events

Once you have tried out the new events website and database, we’d love to hear your feedback. It will help us improve the system to make sure it meets our community’s needs. So please let us know what you think by emailing events@rsc.org

Chemical Analysis Metadata Platform (ChAMP) Project – Get involved!

A collaborative project between the University of North Florida and the Royal Society of Chemistry, the ChAMP project aims to develop standardized metadata, controlled vocabularies, and an ontology for the characterization of chemical analysis methodologies. The intent of ChAMP is to help organizations, business sectors, societies, and journal publishers in the area of chemical analysis formulate standards for reporting, annotating and semantically linking research on analytical methods and applications. Visit the project website at http://champ-project.org.

Rewarding Excellence, Gaining Recognition

Achievements by individuals and teams in advancing the chemical sciences should be celebrated. That’s why we have over 80 prizes and awards covering all areas of the chemical sciences. And our Industry & Technology Awards, refocused for 2015, recognise outstanding innovation, community engagement, industry–academia collaborations, entrepreneurship and science in the chemical sciences industry. If you know someone who deserves recognition, nominate them today. Or, if you have made a significant contribution to advancing the chemical sciences or chemical sciences industry, ask a Royal Society of Chemistry member to nominate you. Nominations close on 15 January 2015.
