I  looked at the picture and read the article, then checked the date. Apparently the American Navy have a method of producing fuel from seawater. Chemistry or Alchemy . An accurate portrayal of chemistry? Discuss.

I think US Navy already invented a way to produce jet fuel from seawater. They subject seawater to an ion exchange reaction, then the acidified seawater is degassed to obtain gaseous carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide is then fed to a reactor with hydrogen to produce hydrocarbons, such as jet fuels.
