The aim of the RSC Radiochemistry group is to promote, educate, practice and collaborate in the chemistry of radioisotopes. This award aims to aid young researchers in the field of radiochemistry by enabling them to present their research to peers from both academia and industry.

The winner receives a cheque for £150 and the honour of having their name added to those of previous recipients on the coveted trophy, a bust of Marie Curie, which remains in their possession until the next meeting. The winner also receives funding from the RSC Radiochemistry Group to present their research at an international scientific conference.

I’m sure many of you read with interest the IYC events pull-out that came in the January issue of RSC News this year. Maybe you attended one or more of those events or know someone who did. As well as those activities there were, of course, a whole host of other schools and public events in the International Year of Chemistry organised by our hard-working and dedicated Local Section committees. Each week over the next 9 weeks this blog will feature a rundown of a selection of these fun and informative events carried out in the different regions across the UK and Ireland.

Remember, Local Section committees organise loads of events throughout the year, every year. Committees are keen to welcome new members to their ranks so if you fancy getting more involved contact your Local Section secretary by using the relevant link on the RSC website. Upcoming events are listed in the Events database of the RSC website and can be reached through the relevant Local Section’s webpage.

The RSC has a number of networks, not all of them are focussed in the UK, we also have many abroad. We have International Co-operative Agreements (ICAs) with other professional institutions; these ICAs enable us to offer local support to our members and online services to chemists beyond the RSC. Through these agreements, our global network reaches over 350,000 scientists.

The RSC has 20 International Local Sections and more than 20 International RSC Representatives which means we are represented in over 40 countries globally. These Local Sections and Representatives hold conferences, lectures and events for local members.  Here is just a taster of some of the many activities carried out in 2011. more...

I came across a nice article in C&EN about the value of networking.

If this inspires you to develop your scientific networks, see the attached PDF for a list of RSC Interest Groups available for RSC members to join. Every member can join up to 3 Interest Groups at no extra cost; membership of additional Groups costs just £10 per Group per year.

To join Interest Groups email Membership@rsc.org today.
