New starter on the Networks Team |
We are delighted to welcome Dr Barney Slater to the Networks Team!Barney joined us on Monday 30 May from the Science Divisions Team where he worked on the Divisions Review outcomes. Communications from across the RSC |
Here are updates about events and activities from our Outreach, Careers, Events, International, and Research & Innovation teams, as well as the Chemists’ Community Fund and RSC Publishing.New programme to help chemists from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds launch their careersOur Missing Elements report demonstrated clear evidence of the racial and ethnic inequalities in the chemical sciences. Talented people from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds are leaving the profession at every stage of their careers after undergraduate studies. We want to change that. Our Broadening Horizons in the Chemical Sciences programme will enable students and recent graduates from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds to pursue careers in industry, innovation and entrepreneurship. We have teamed up with leading companies to offer access to industry experience, mentoring and networking. Our industry partners include Unilever, GSK, Syngenta, RSSL, AstraZeneca, BASF and Nanomerics. We welcome applications from current students in the second year of their undergraduate degree onwards, including postgraduate students, or from those who have completed their chemistry degree within the last three years.Applications are open now and will close on 23 June 2022. Candidates can find out more about the programme (including eligibility criteria) and apply on our website. We would greatly appreciate your help in encouraging those who might benefit to apply, and we ask you to please share this information with your student and graduate networks.Learn more about the scheme and apply online by 23 JuneNational Chemical Landmarks Scheme open for applicationsWould you like to celebrate a person, team, organisation, innovation or discovery in the chemical sciences that has helped make the world a better place? We welcome interesting and viable proposals for new Chemical Landmarks that are awarded as blue plaques.
The scheme is now open for applications. Please visit our website for the latest information on the scheme and how to apply. You can also drop us a line to outreach@rsc.org.See all of the RSC blue plaques or suggest your own on our websiteCelebrating Pride monthJune is Pride month, and to celebrate it we wanted to remind you of our LGBT+ Toolkit, a set of resources designed to tackle the key issues faced by LGBT+ physical scientists. This kit provides the tools for everyone to take part in positive change: employers and managers, colleagues and allies, and LGBT+ individuals. It is important to remember that taking concrete steps towards greater LGBT+ inclusivity is a key part of fostering diverse and welcoming scientific workplaces.Find the resource you need and make a difference towards LGBT+ inclusivityEducation Prizes nominations close 22 JuneNominations are open for the RSC’s Education Prizes. The Excellence in Education prizes celebrate inspirational, innovative and dedicated people working at all stages of education. They include prizes for individuals, teams and people who are in the early stages of their career. Meanwhile, the Horizon Prizes for Education recognise education initiatives set to make a real impact. Nominations close on 22nd June.Learn more and nominate online Announcing three new RSC journalsWe are excited to announce the upcoming launch of three new RSC journals:
